 I have met many genuine and good   people while on our travels over the last   15 years. There are many couples that we   are happy to call friends, but not just the   couples I have officiated for but also their   friends and family and the talented wedding professionals we have met over the years. I have officiated for friends, siblings and even parents of couples that I have officiated for. WHY HIRE A PROFESSIONAL WEDDING OFFICIANT?

A officiant guides couples through the most nerve-wracking part of their wedding day, helping ease anxiety before the ceremony and leading them to the celebrations after. It is amazing how nervous or quiet couples can be before a wedding ceremony and then afterwards the biggest weight is lifted, and love, laughter and celebrations ensue. While each wedding professional has a role, the officiant stands front and center, sharing the couple's story and handling the "I do" moment. They craft and present the ceremony to loved ones and it is the one part of the day that legally unites a couple. Their responsibilities go beyond just speaking at the event. Below are a few things to think about when hiring a professional wedding officiant and reasons it is a good idea to do so.  

• ​A qualified officiant should possess comprehensive knowledge of the wedding ceremony process, from the processional to the recessional. Can the officiant guide rehearsals if needed, organize the wedding party, advise on timing and the positioning of the wedding party? The officiant should be able to confidently lead the couple throughout the ceremony. It is helpful and valuable if they can oversee the proceedings, including helping direct guests after the ceremony, and ensuring all aspects, such as the signing of the license, occur seamlessly. 
• They should work with fellow vendors (DJ, Photographers, Venue) to make sure responsibilities are covered and everyone is on the same page. Ask your officiant when they arrive for the ceremony and make sure, they don't arrive five minutes before and leave five minutes after. 
• Can they project their voice with inflection and clarity? Microphones can be great, but they are not magic and sometimes cause more problems than they solve. Ask your officiant what they prefer and how they present a ceremony. 

• Ask your officiant about their process and how they craft your ceremony script. Do they provide thorough consultations, inquire about your relationship, and become familiar with your preferences. Will they share ceremony drafts, invite feedback, and make necessary revisions to ensure your vision is realized? 
• ​Your professional officiant ​ should be able to address questions regarding the marriage license and typically handle its submission to the appropriate county clerk. ​​

I highly recommend not choosing someone because they are available and as an officiant, I make sure the couple is a good fit for my services before I book a wedding date. Ask questions and make sure you feel comfortable with your wedding professionals and then trust them to do their job. Unlike a lot of church pastors or family friends who officiate, a professional officiant with years of experience will know how to handle adversity and know how to ease your mind on your big day. The right officiant can make a great day an extraordinary one.
